WSSB will be offering a course in Unified English Braille again this year. The class is free and will be held over Zoom. We will be using the Instruction Manual for Braille Transcribing – UEB Edition, 2015 as the curriculum.

Who:
This class is for adults who want to learn to read braille by sight, transcribe print into braille, and learn the rules of braille usage. The class will prepare participants to pass the Washington State Unified English Braille Competency Exam. Washington school staff who are teaching braille or producing braille for students are required to demonstrate proficiency in UEB: WAC 181-82-130.
When:
The class will start October 1 and finish in late February. Participants will receive recorded instructional videos each week corresponding to a lesson in the Instruction Manual for Braille Transcribing. We will have a Zoom meeting on Wednesdays from 4-5 (attend live or watch a recording). Participants will practice on their own throughout the week using the materials in the Instruction Manual.
Cost:
The class is free. Everyone will need a copy of the Instruction Manual for Braille Transcribing – UEB Edition, 2015, which is available online to view or download for free.
Other Materials:
Participants will need a Perkins Brailler, slate and stylus, and Braille paper. More information about materials will be sent after registering for the class.
Washington state clock hours will be available at the end of the course.
