PURPOSE:

The purpose of this policy is to explain parental and WSSB responsibility involving student transportation.

POLICY

All students will be transported to their home area through a contracted local service provider, charter bus, van, plane, or other arranged mode of travel.  Parents or guardians are responsible for pick up to and from transportation provided by WSSB.  Parents are responsible for any additional cost incurred resulting from failure to meet students at designated stops and times. Any changes to established transportation schedule must be submitted by the parent or guardian in writing.

For students who fly home on the weekends, airline tickets will be purchased a minimum of one month in advance.  Any miles that are accrued by student travel toward travel coupons are to be used at the discretion of the WSSB.

WSSB will not accept responsibility for visitation among students. It is the responsibility of the parents to know the family of the student their child will be visiting. Responsibility for transportation for such visits will rest with the parent. WSSB, with advanced notice, will see that the arrangements for transportation made by parents are carried out.

Permission will not be granted for students to visit or stay overnight with staff, regardless of parental permission. Exceptions can be given only by the school superintendent. If a student is visiting another family, WSSB will not assume liability for students once they either leave campus or leave WSSB provided transportation.
