Procedure - Complaints Concerning Staff or Programs

Most complaints can be resolved by informal discussions between the community member and the staff member.  If the matter is not resolved, the superintendent will attempt to resolve the issue through a conference with the community member and the staff member.  The following procedures apply to the processing of a complaint, which cannot be resolved in the manner described above:

  1. If the problem is not satisfactorily resolved, the community member should contact the superintendent to discuss the problem and a suggested solution.  The community member also may file a written complaint.  The superintendent should send copies to the administrator and staff member.
  2. The superintendent shall then attempt to resolve the matter through a conference with the community member, staff member and administrator.
  3. If the matter is not resolved through mutual agreement, the superintendent shall make a decision on the matter, which shall be communicated to the community member and appropriate staff members in a timely manner.
  4. If a complaint is directed against an employee represented by a bargaining unit, the relevant terms, if any, of the collective bargaining agreement will be applicable.
  5. If a complaint other than at the school level is directed against a supervisor, an administrator, or another employee, the complaint will be referred to the employee's immediate supervisor or human resources for resolution of the complaint.
  6. This procedure does not preclude the appropriate administrator from resolving a complaint through other processes, as deemed appropriate.
