To have a fire drill, the following procedure should be followed:

  1. In any building on campus…systematically evacuate the building (check fire drill route signs), close doors, windows and turn off lights.  Trip the fire alarm if the fire is in your area.
  2. If in the cottage…evacuate the cottage by the nearest exit and proceed toward the gazebo.
  3. Volunteers function the same as staff, with the same responsibilities in case of a fire drill.
  4. Last out proceed to the gazebo, with children under your supervision.
  5. Take roll.
  6. Return when notified by verbal “all clear” signal.

Area Of Responsibility For Fire Or Drill

  1. RESIDENTIAL LIFE COUNSELORS:  Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire.
  2. NURSES:  Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire.
  3. TEACHERS, AIDES & THERAPISTS:  Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire.
  4. MEDIA SPECIALIST:  All areas of the library plus the computer labs.
  5. PRINCIPAL or ACTING PRINCIPAL: Primary areas of responsibilities include the auditorium, stage and north restrooms.  Check all hallways for overall evacuation and security lockdown.
  6. ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE PRINCIPAL: Primary areas of responsibilities include west hall and south restrooms.
  7. IRWIN SECRETARY:  Primary areas of responsibilities include teachers’ lounge, office and storeroom.
  8. KENNEDY BUILDING STAFF (Gym): Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire.
  9. CUSTODIAL AND MAINTENANCE STAFF:  Primary area of responsibility is the fire area (after helping to evacuate all students in your area of work).
  10. FOOD SERVICE AND DINING STAFF:  Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire.
  11. OLD MAIN STAFF: Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire. 
  12. RECEPTIONIST – OLD MAIN:  When fire signal is activated call fire department at 911 and give your name, number, school location and exact area of fire.
  13. WIRC STAFF:  Primary area of responsibility is the area to which you are assigned at the time of the fire.
  14. BERHOW COTTAGE:  Berhow residents report to the Gazebo. Residential Life Counselor or staff supervising the Berhow students is responsible for them.

*IF YOU NOTICE AN AREA THAT IS NOT COVERED, PLEASE BRING IT TO SOMEONE’S ATTENTION.  LET’S NOT LET ANY AREA GO OVERLOOKED.
