WSSB Online UEB Course
WSSB will be offering a course in Unified English Braille again this year. The class is free and will be held weekly over Zoom. We will be using Ashcroft Programmed Instruction: Unified English Braille as the curriculum. Who: Anyone who wants to learn braille and pass the Washington State Unified English Braille Competency Exam. This certification is required for school staff who are teaching or producing braille for students: https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=181-82-130.
When: Classes will meet on Tuesday afternoons from 4-5 via Zoom and will be recorded for those who need to watch at a different time. Classes will begin Tuesday, October 10th and run through the end of February.
Cost: The class is free, but participants will need a copy of Ashcroft’s Programmed Instruction: UEB and Companion Reader for Ashcroft’s Programmed Instruction: UEB. These materials can be ordered at: http://www.scalarspublishing.com/ordering/.
Other Materials: Participants will need a Perkins Brailler, slate and stylus, and braille paper. More information about materials will be sent after registering for the class.
Clock Hours will be available.
*This class is intended to teach the basics of braille transcription and reading braille by sight, not tactile braille reading.
