Youth Employment Solutions 2 & Virtual Internship Program


DSB Summer Internship programs provide eligible students with hands-on experiences to build strong foundations for their futures.

Our Summer Internship Programs – developed to provide students with a taste of a real-world career – give youth opportunities to:

  • Define their strengths and goals.
  • Learn about educational and career paths.
  • Strengthen daily living skills.
  • Meet others and have fun!

Students can choose between two summer internship options:

  • Youth Employment Solutions
  • Virtual Internship Program


Internship Options

Youth Employment Solutions 2 (YES-2)

YES-2 is a residential six-week program where participants can taste independence.

Participants have paid work experiences, complete household chores, prepare their own meals, go grocery shopping, and manage their own paychecks.

YES-2 is designed to provide valuable work experience and learning to high school students, age 16 through age 21. Accepted candidates are provided five weeks of paid work experience at internships created for them in cooperation with Seattle-area businesses. Positions are assigned to students based on their interests, abilities, and experience.

Virtual Internship Program (VIP)

DSB’s Virtual Internship Program (link to VIP page) will provide blind and low-vision students the chance to build skills, grow their network, and prepare for future internships.

Students interested in participating in a virtual internship are encouraged to participate this free, 3-part program co-hosted by Washington Vocational Services (WVS):

Part 1 - Job Class

  • Improve employment skills
  • Weekly classes led by professionals
  • Different topics each week

Part 2 - Remote Internship

  • 100% remote internships
  • All internships are paid
  • Minimum of 20 hours per week

Part 3 - Remote Job Club

  • Weekly Zoom meetings
  • Bring the interns together
  • Build relationships and natural supports



To qualify for Summer Internship Programs, all participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a student with a visual impairment.
  • Be eligible to work in the U.S.

Students interested in YES-2 must also:

  • Be able to manage personal self-care needs.
  • Possess basic Orientation and Mobility skills allowing safe and independent travel in familiar and unfamiliar indoor and outdoor environments.


Prerequisite Requirements

Online Job Class

All participants in YES-2 and VIP must attend the Online Job Class from March 3 through May 19, 2022.

Job Class is a 12-week soft skills course led by professionals and designed to prepare attendees for their work experiences during the summer. Participants will learn skills to improve their employment skills, learn the ins and outs of the workplace, and much more.

Classes meet every Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Participants will be expected to be actively engaged throughout the course of the program. Students who fail to complete Job Class will be unable to participate in YES-2 or VIP.

Work Eligibility

Participants must be age 16 by March 3, 2022.

All applicants to YES-2 or VIP must be eligible to work in the United States. This includes native and naturalized U.S. citizens and permanent residents with a Green Card.



The YES-2 residential program is located in Seattle, Washington.

VIP is conducted 100% virtually.



Blind or Visually Impaired students ages 16 – 21.

DSB does not charge any fees for participation in its summer programs.
