White Cane Technique – 2 Point Touch
4
White Cane Technique
  • Properly hold your cane with your cane grip, your index finger out – just like you would to shake hands.
5
The Two Point Touch
  • Move your cane in front of you from right to left, shoulder to shoulder.  It protects your body and anticipates what’s going to be in front of you.
6
Inclines
  • If you notice an incline with your cane, you stop at the corner.
7
Crossing the Street
  • Listen for traffic.  If it’s quiet, it means no cars are coming and it’s usually safe to cross.
8
Intersecting Sidewalks
  • To find an intersecting sidewalk, say you are going into a building, you would use the shoreline technique.
  • After using your 2 point touch technique, transition to the edge to try to find the intersecting sidewalk.
9
Intersecting Sidewalks
  • Feel for intersecting sidewalk.
  • Move past the sidewalk then make your turn.
  • Proceed to your destination!
10
White Cane Techniques
  • These techniques can be used indoors and outdoors!
