Intermediate Nemeth Braille Code

 

Instructor: Betsy McBride, Braillist/Transcriber

 

The course will be taught in five 2-hour session. Each session completed will earn the participant 2 clock hours, with a total of 10 being offered. These clock hours qualify for your BLUE renewal. During each 2-hour session, the instructor will teach and demonstrate the topics in that unit of the text for approximately one hour. Time will be allotted for the participants to complete that session’s assignment with the instructor present to answer questions and reinforce skills as needed.

Intermediate Nemeth Braille Course Syllabus

 

Objective

 

To learn the Nemeth Braille Code including basic format for the production of daily worksheets and other materials needed by a student in the classroom.

 

Session 1: January 24th, 2008 4 pm – 6 pm

Rule VII Abbreviations

Rule  XX Signs and Symbols of Comparison

 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Braille indicators and rules studied by

a)     discussion and use of Braille samples

b)     students will work with teacher to produce correct Nemeth Code

 

Session 2:  January 28th, 2008 4 pm – 6 pm

Rule  XVII Signs and Symbols of Grouping

Rule  IX Contractions and Short-Form Words (part 1)

 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Braille indicators and rules studied by

c)      discussion and use of Braille samples

d)     students will work with teacher to produce correct Nemeth Code

 

Session 3: January 31st, 2008 4 pm – 6 pm

Rule  IX Contractions and Short-Form Words (part II)

Rule XVI Shapes

 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Braille indicators and rules studied by

e)     discussion and use of Braille samples

f)       students will work with teacher to produce correct Nemeth Code

 

Session 4:  February 4th, 2008 4 pm – 6 pm

Rule  XIII Superscripts and Subscripts

Rule  XXII Miscellaneous Signs and Symbols

 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Braille indicators and rules studied by

g)     discussion and use of Braille samples

h)     students will work with teacher to produce correct Nemeth Code

 

Session 5:  February 7th, 2008 4 pm – 6 pm

Rule  XV Radicals

Rule  IV Alphabets and Alphabetic Indicators

 

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Braille indicators and rules studied by

i)        discussion and use of Braille samples

j)        students will work with teacher to produce correct Nemeth Code
